A comparison of the Dawn of Madness Depressions Terror Pack against the core game and other expansions, with clear trade-offs and fit guidance for your table.
Quick answer
The Depressions Terror Pack is a small, focused add-on for Dawn of Madness owners who want three new Terror cards, three miniatures, and three Mental Capacity Trackers. It does not replace the core game, and it is not a standalone expansion. Buy it if you already own the core game and want more variety in Terror encounters; skip it if you are new to Dawn of Madness or prefer expansions that add new scenarios or campaigns.
How the Depressions Pack compares to the core game
The core Dawn of Madness game is required to use this pack. The Depressions Terror Pack adds three Terror cards, three standees, three Mental Capacity Trackers, and three miniatures. That is a narrow content slice compared with a full expansion that might add new maps, enemies, or story branches. The trade-off is focus versus breadth: this pack deepens the Terror encounter pool without adding new rules overhead, but it will not transform the game the way a larger expansion can.
Where the Depressions Pack fits among Dawn of Madness expansions
Dawn of Madness has several expansions, and they serve different purposes. Some add new playable characters or campaign content; the Depressions Terror Pack adds Terror encounters and the components to track them. If your group already has plenty of scenarios but finds Terror encounters repetitive, this pack offers targeted variety. If you are still exploring the core game, the pack adds less value until you have played enough to notice the repetition. The catalog lists a Board Game Geek average player rating of 9.4 for this product, but that reflects the broader game experience, not a guarantee that every group needs this specific pack.
Preorder timing and delivery expectations
This is a preorder item with an expected delivery date of 2026-09-30. That date is a catalog estimate, not a guarantee. The trade-off is price versus patience: the catalog price is USD 13.39 compared with a comparison price of USD 19.99, so you save money by committing early, but you wait for fulfillment. If you need the content for an immediate campaign, this pack will not help you now. If you are planning a longer-term collection, the preorder discount is the main reason to act before release.
Key trade-offs to weigh
- Focused variety vs. broad expansion: The pack adds three Terror cards and three miniatures, which increases encounter variety without new campaign content. Choose it if you want more Terror options; skip it if you want new scenarios or characters. Check whether your group has already exhausted the core Terror deck before buying.
- Preorder savings vs. waiting: The catalog price is USD 13.39 versus a comparison price of USD 19.99, but delivery is expected 2026-09-30. The discount rewards early commitment, while the wait may not suit immediate play needs. Confirm you are comfortable with the delivery window before you preorder.
- Component count vs. storage footprint: The pack includes three miniatures, three standees, three Terror cards, and three Mental Capacity Trackers. That is a small storage addition, but the miniatures require some assembly and painting if you want them table-ready. Plan for a little hobby time if you want the miniatures painted before play.
